Troubleshooting An Update
Manually Installing an Ascend-IP Update
The program updates are intended to be
straight-forward and
an automatic process. However, there may be times when it is necessary to manually install
an update. This document will show you the steps necessary to update your system.
- Download the update from the Hann's On Software website (www.hosinc.com) to the \Update
directory on the Ascend-IP server. If you do not have internet access in your pharmacy
have your IS department download the file and copy it to the \Update directory.
- Using Explorer, double-click the \Update\Update.EXE file to
open it or use the Unpack Update menu under the Updates menu in Ascend-IP. This will
extract the required files for the update.
- IMPORTANT! At this point, make sure all users have exited
Ascend-IP and any Ascend-IP interfaces are shutdown.
- Using Explorer, copy the SUpdate.MDB file from the \Update
directory on the server to the \Ascend-IP directory on the local workstation. Double-click
the SUpdate.MDB file on the local workstation to update the server. (It is important the
SUpdate.MDB file is located in the same directory as the Ascend-IP.MDB file, otherwise the
update will not work.)
- Now at each workstation (including the one you ran the
SUpdate.MDB file from), copy the \Update\CUpdate.MDB file from the server to the
\Ascend-IP directory on the local machine. (It is important the SUpdate.MDB file is
located in the same directory as the Ascend-IP.MDB file, otherwise the update will not
work.)
- Using Explorer, double-click the \Ascend-IP\CUpdate.MDB on
the local machine to start the workstation update program.
Can't Find SYSTEM.MDW - No Read Permissions
SYSTEM.MDW is a Microsoft Access workgroup file and is
required by Ascend-I.P. This file may not have been properly installed or the link may
have been lost. To fix this problem you have to join the SYSTEM.MDW workgroup.
- Find and run Wrkgadm.exe (usually found in the
Windows/System folder).
- Click Join... and then click the Browse button. Browse the
folder where the SYSTEM.MDW file is located (usually found in Program Files\Ascend-IP).
- When you locate the file, highlight it in the window on the
left and click OK. You should receive a message confirming you have joined the SYSTEM.MDW
workgroup.
- Exit the Workgroup Administrator program.
Repeatedly Asking To Do A Workstation Update -
Update In A Loop
If after you have updated the workstation you are
repeatedly asked to do a workstation update (clicking "Yes" just puts you in an
endless loop of updates) you will need to delete a file on the server. First make sure all
workstations have been updated. On all the computers, verify the Ascend-IP version at the
top of the screen matches the version you downloaded from our website. Second, using My
Computer or Explorer, go to the Ascend-IP/Update folder on the server and delete the
Update.MDB file.
