| Ascend IP New Features |
The following discussion applies to versions of Ascend IP beginning with the 200609181300 release. To search for an item in the FirstDatabank list, your Formulary, or using your Formulary Mnemonics, type the first 3 letters of the drug name or the first 5 digits of the NDC number. Example: Patient takes baby aspirin every day, search for the first three letters: bab, select BABY ASPIRIN from the list, type in the SIG. You can type QD (TAB), and the SIG will convert to your English equivalent. Notice, the display shows Description, Source and NDC. The Source will be FirstDatabank or your Formulary.
You could also search on aspirin, type in the first 3 letters: asp. When the list comes up, continue typing the rest of the word so it says "aspirin 81". You could then scroll down and select the proper item.
You can also modify the Description which determines what shows on the Patient Profile and any reports.
To enter an order for an item not found in the FirstDatabank search, search for the word "other". An item called *Other will appear in the list.
Select *Other, the Description will change to *Other
Change the Description to the words of your choice and enter Route, SIG, Comments as appropriate:
This will appear on the Patient Profile and on Continuum of Care reports (if reporting on Pre-Admission Medications). Pre-Admission Medication Orders have an Order Type = Pre-Admission, Status=P
