Setting Order Types/History Options
Order Types
Note
Ascend-IP acts differently for each type of order you may enter. For example, the program knows that "unit dose" type orders should appear on a fill (pick) list, that IV labels should be printed for "IV" type orders, and that "floor stock" type orders should not be dispensed or charged automatically. Various order types also allow the pharmacy to:
1. Assign unique label formats to each order type.
2. Report drug usage, inventory, costs, revenues, adverse reactions, etc. by order type.
3. Turn on, or turn off, program features by order type (.e.g., want a label prompt?)
4. Pre-assign an order type to a drug formulary item to save time during order entry.
5. Apply exceptions to the automatic rewrite function (i.e., SIG, interval and IV rate).
Note
Several "built-in" order types are already present and cannot be altered. You can create additional ones for your own purposes. All order types you create must be tagged as either "unit dose", "IV" or "floor stock". For example, if you enter a new type called "Pediatric Chemo" and you want that type of order to appear on a pick list, make it a "unit dose" type. If, on the other hand, you want it to be scheduled, batch-labeled and batch-dispensed as if it were an IV solution, make it an "IV" type (even if the route may not be IV!). We recommend you discuss plans to add order types with Hann's On Software prior to doing so.
To add an order type:
Automatic Rewrite For Order Changes
Go to the Utilities menu then Options menu, then to the Order Types/History tab. If a user makes a change to any of the checked fields (see screen print below), they will be prompted to either DC and rewrite the order or leave as written.
If the Rewrite box (found in the Order Types window) is checked, the program will prompt for a rewrite when any of three fields are edited. These three fields are SIG, IV rate and interval. You can choose to trigger a rewrite, or not, for each order type (i.e., Unit Dose vs. IV orders) if the user tries to edit one of these three fields. If this box is left unchecked, an order rewrite will not be triggered when changes are made to any of the three fields. Note: for any other checked fields, an order rewrite will be triggered regardless of order type.
Furthermore, you can check the Log Order Changes box if you would like to record all changes made to active orders.
