Ascend-IP has always allowed
fractional ingredient quantities. However,
most hospital financial systems only accept charges/credits expressed in whole
numbers (i.e., integers). Therefore, AIP
automatically rounds-up fractional quantities to the next highest integer value
(e.g., “2.25” a
”3” and “-1.5” a
”-2” ) when these values are printed on AIP charge reports and/or
transmitted with AIP interfaces. Furthermore, if multiple doses are given per
day, the “rounding up” process is done before the charge totals are
summed-up for the day (e.g., 8 x
0.5 tablets/day = 8 charges/day,
not 4).
This “rounding” does NOT apply to ingredient quantities sent via our Automated Dispensing System (ADS) interfaces (e.g., Pyxis, Suremed, Omnicell, and etc. with “profiling”).
