Billing The Metric Decimal Quantity with NCPDP

Some payers (typically state Medicaid programs) require you to bill liquids in ML's (metric decimal quantity). You dispense 1 vial (500 ML) of XYZ solution. Instead of billing a quantity of 1 for each 500 ML vial, you need to bill for a quantity of 500 or each ML. Ascend-HI can automatically bill the metric decimal quantity (each ML) for inventory items with a ML unit of measure if a couple settings are configured correctly.

  1. Edit the payer record and under the 'E-Bill NCPDP' tab, select the option to "Send ML quantity as each ML".
  2. Make sure the inventory items that you want to bill per ML are configured properly: volume of the container/vial needs to be in the Per field and Unit of Measure needs to be set to ML.
  3. To see the metric decimal quantity that will be sent on NCPDP claims, you can select the NCPDP tab on the claim and view the Metric Decimal Quantity field (read only field).
